The Bishop of Rome, the Pontiff, builds bridges with God and between people, and is called Francis because he cares about peace and the poverty of the men and women of our time. Material poverty but also, more importantly, the spiritual poverty of our time. These were the words of Pope Francis as he addressed the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See this morning. Fighting poverty, both material and spiritual, building peace and constructing bridges are — the Pope said – the reference points for a journey that I want to invite each of the countries represented here to take up.
