El cardenal Rylko ha destacado que la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud es “una experiencia extraordinaria de una Iglesia amiga de los jóvenes”
Ya se han inscrito cerca de 440.000 personas en la Jornada de Madrid, una cifra nunca alcanzada en ediciones anteriores
Madrid, 28 de junio de 2011.- Esta mañana ha tenido lugar en el Aula Juan Pablo II de la Sala Stampa del Vaticano una rueda de prensa para presentar los preparativos, a menos de 50 días del comienzo de la próxima edición de la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud (JMJ) en Madrid. Tras darse a conocer la agenda definitiva de Benedicto XVI el pasado fin de semana, los medios internacionales acreditados ante la Santa Sede han recibido de primera mano las últimas novedades en los preparativos de la JMJ.
El cardenal Rylko, presidente del Consejo Pontificio para los Laicos, ha mencionado que la cifra de 400.000 inscritos a día de hoy en la JMJ es una cifra nunca alcanzada en ninguna otra edición a más de mes y medio de su comienzo. Además ha resaltado que es “una experiencia extraordinaria de una Iglesia amiga de los jóvenes, que se pone al servicio de las nuevas generaciones. Es una experiencia de la Iglesia Universal que abraza a todo el planeta, de una Iglesia joven, plena de entusiasmo”. También ha destacado la importancia de la formación de los jóvenes, tanto en los preparativos como en las 260 catequesis en 30 idiomas que se celebrarán durante la JMJ.
Por su parte el cardenal Rouco, presidente del Comité Organizador Local de la JMJ, ha destacado cómo los preparativos están llegando a su fin y ha agradecido la colaboración de todas las personas que están haciendo posible la Jornada de Madrid. El cardenal también ha manifestado la inestimable colaboración de una gran plataforma cívica de la sociedad española, en la que destaca la colaboración de parroquias, movimientos e instituciones de la Iglesia, los voluntarios, las distintas administraciones públicas – Gobierno, Ayuntamiento y Comunidad de Madrid-, además de los medios de comunicación que colaboran con la JMJ.
El cardenal Rouco ha animado también a la comunidad internacional a hacer “un nuevo diagnóstico en los valores” por la crisis que afecta la juventud y la sociedad contemporánea, visible en las últimas actuaciones de jóvenes españoles en la calle.
Yago de la Cierva, director ejecutivo de la JMJ ha destacado la importantísima labor de los 22.500 voluntarios, clave para la organización de un evento de estas dimensiones, para el que se espera más de un millón de jóvenes durante el mes de agosto en Madrid. De la Cierva ha mostrado también “la ilusión” por parte de los organizadores al aceptar el Santo Padre la propuesta –por primera vez en una JMJ- de confesar a varios jóvenes en el marco de la Fiesta del Perdón que se celebrará en el madrileño Parque del Retiro.
El director ejecutivo de la JMJ también ha destacado la importancia del Fondo de Solidaridad, “imprescindible para que jóvenes de todo el mundo donde la Iglesia es perseguida o tiene dificultades económicas, puedan cumplir su sueño y asistan a la próxima edición de la JMJ”.
Para Elsa Vázquez, voluntaria internacional, mexicana con residencia en Australia está siendo “una experiencia vital maravillosa”, que está cambiando su vida y así quiere transmitírselo al mundo
José Antonio Martínez, responsable de Acogida de la JMJ ha dado los últimos datos de inscripción, a los medios internacionales acreditados ante la Santa Sede, y ha destacado las acreditaciones de los jóvenes peregrinos italianos y franceses, los grupos más numerosos.

Nearly 440,000 people have registered for WYD in Madrid, a never-before-seen figure for WYD
Rome, June 28, 2011 – This morning, a press conference was held at the John Paul II Hall of the Vatican Press Office, to present the status of preparations at less than 50 days before the start of the upcoming World Youth Day (WYD) in Madrid. Following the disclosure of the final agenda of Benedict XVI last weekend, the international media accredited by the Holy See received a first-hand account of the latest developments in the preparations for WYD.
Cardinal Rylko, President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, mentioned the figure of 400,000 who are currently registered for WYD, a figure that has never been reached in any other WYD at over a month and a half before the start date. He also emphasized that it is «an extraordinary experience of a Church that is a friend to the youth, which places herself at the service of the new generations. It is an experience of the Universal Church which embraces the entire planet, a young Church, full of enthusiasm.» He also highlighted the importance of offering religious formation to young people, both in the preparations and at the 260 catechesis in 30 languages to be held during WYD.
Cardinal Rouco, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for World Youth Day, highlighted how the preparations are coming to an end and thanked the cooperation of all those who are making WYD in Madrid possible. The Cardinal also mentioned the invaluable assistance of a great many components of Spanish civil society, highlighting the collaboration of parishes, movements and institutions of the Church, volunteers, the various public administrations – the Government, City Hall, and Community of Madrid – as well as the media sources that collaborate with WYD.
Cardinal Rouco also encouraged the international community to make «a new diagnosis of values» in light of the crisis effecting youth and contemporary society, visible in the recent actions carried out by young Spaniards on the streets.
Yago de la Cierva, Executive Director of World Youth Day, has highlighted the important work of the 22,500 volunteers who have been key to organizing an event of this size, which is expected to see more than one million young people arrive in Madrid this August. De la Cierva also revealed the great “excitement” organizers experienced when the Pope accepted the proposal – for the first time in a WYD – to hear the confessions of several young people during the Festival of Forgiveness to be held in Madrid’s Parque del Retiro.
The Executive Director of World Youth Day also highlighted the importance of the Solidarity Fund, «essential in enabling young people around the world, in places where the Church is persecuted or has financial difficulties, to fulfill their dream and attend this upcoming WYD.»
For Elsa Vázquez, an international volunteer, a Mexican with residence in Australia, this has been «a wonderful experience of a lifetime,» that is changing her life and inspires her to convey this message to the world.
José Antonio Martínez, Director of WYD Hospitality, gave an update on the latest registration statistics to the international media accredited by the Holy See, highlighting the numerous registrations of Italian and French youth, the two largest groups.
